The Illinois Rural Health Workshop is a joint program between University of Illinois Extension and the Illinois Health Education Consortium/AHEC working with rural communities in Illinois through the development and provision of economic information about the local health care sector.
The goal of the program is to help community members realize the economic importance of their local health care sectors and to provide information that supports community health planning efforts.
A key output of this program is a report or study that details the relationship between the health services industry and rural communities within Illinois. This report contains economic and industry studies as well as information presented by key informants within each community. It helps to illuminate the successes and limitations of health service provision, assess the role health services play in a local economy, and begin the planning process to improve and expand rural health service coverage and access. In addition the program can also assist with community perception surveys, media campaigns, community meetings, community education, physician recruitment, and grant writing.
